Real Life

OK, “Edge” it is…but not quite yet today!

Because today, this guy and I have to go to the Clackamas County Fair!

OK, so I know he doesn’t look super fair-ready in this shot. But believe me, he’s super-excited!

I mean, how could we miss such events as Pigeon Rolling, Rabbit Agility, and Chicken Races? (Well, we will miss some of those, because it’s already 10:00 and I’m sitting here typing this post. But we should be there in time for Chicken Races!)

So, the Edge story will come soon. And for those of you who wanted “Yellow,” it’s basically the same story. Or at least I’m going to roll them into one.

In the meantime, here’s this week’s August Break entries. As with previous posts on this topic, didn’t exactly follow the rules/timeline and how only a few entries.

First one up is not my photo. I couldn’t capture what wildfire smoke did to our air yesterday, but it was bad.

Smoke from wildfires made our air smoky and hazy yesterday. Continues today. So much loss.

FIRE: Smoky haze continues today. So much loss.

This one's a sneak peak at that Edge story...

READING: I have been reading about fashion for women over 40. Which I keep on a secret Pinterest board because I'm embarrassed to admit that I care. And that I no longer know how to dress.

TWO and SWEET DELIGHTS: What could be a sweeter delight than a summer afternoon nap for two?

And…I’m off to see some chickens! And eat pie! Can’t wait to see the entries in the table setting competition…

I love county fairs! And fair food. Always. My favorite has always been elephant ears which were all over county fairs where I grew up in Michigan. This area is all about the funnel cake which is NOT as tasty. But we’re (hopefully) going to the Minnesota State Fair this week (animal barns!!) where they DO have elephant ears.

Hope you’re having a great time at the chicken races!!

I LOVE elephant ears, but we decided to try the funnel cake. Gotta branch out! It was pretty tasty, too. We missed the chicken races because we watched the demolition derby instead. I think I’d have preferred the chickens. 🙂 Hope you have a fabulous time at the state fair. And eat an elephant ear for me. 🙂

    Hey Rita!
I am visiting Oregon, and sadly am going back to Australia tomorrow. The smoke here in Bend is horrendous! So much for a relaxing 5 weeks, all I have done is hack up half a lung! Hopefully they will all settle down soon.
    Hubby looks super-charged! I can tell! 😉
I love fairs! I wish we had more of them back home but sadly they are inundated with commercialism and tend to be more a shop till you drop kind of event than a family outing checking out the chickens and pumpkins.
    Cheers!

The smoke has been horrendous–like nothing I’ve seen here before. I’m sorry that’s what you experienced here. I’ve found that city street fairs here can be just as you describe, but county fairs a different thing altogether. I’ll try to post some pics soon. It was great fun. Safe travels to you–

Me too! But I didn’t get to see it or the chicken races. Cane talked me into the demolition derby instead. I think I would have preferred racing chickens.

And there was pie. Delicious, creamy pie like our Grandmas used to make–way too sweet, with way too much meringue. A Betty Crocker kind of pie. It was wonderful.

I, too, am intrigued by rabbit agility and pigeon rolling. But also by “Edge,” can’t wait for your next post!

If I were to take a photo to capture fire it would be of my daughter’s albuterol inhaler. 🙁 Seattle looked really eerie on Sunday. The winds have shifted now but not my thoughts.

I’m working on that post! (Life.) Things have been pretty eerie here, too. I came out of the grocery store on Saturday morning, and I couldn’t believe the haze. And how different breathing felt. The moon and sun have looked, as one friend put it, apocalyptic. I understand about the thoughts. I feel as if we might be living in the beginning days of a dystopian sic-fi tale. Only it won’t be fiction. Try not to linger for too long in those thoughts.

Multiple things I wanted to comment on in this post, but it’s late and I’m tired, so I’ll comment only on the most important thing. Rabbit Agility!? What a time to be alive! At first I was picturing bunnies waving tiny ribbons on sticks…then I realized that would be Rabbit Rhythmic Gymnastics. Rabbit Agility was probably more like bunnies high-stepping through a course of tiny tractor tires. Were they wearing little participant number bibs? Rita, please tell me the only reason you haven’t posted pics of bunnies in miniature participant number bibs is because you haven’t had time to unload your camera!?

I am so bummed I missed Rabbit Agility! I have no idea what it was, and I have no pics because I missed it. 🙁 But I do have Demolition Derby pictures. And pictures of the Barbie Shoe Collection. And fruit-sculpture car made out of rotting fruit. (I’m guessing the last day of the fair isn’t the time to get the best view of the fruit sculptures.) I will post, just as soon as I finish my dang Edge story…
